Allis’ Test

The Allis’ test is used to compare the length of the lower extremities and was originally designed for congenital hip dislocation. This test is also called Allis’ sign, Galeazzi’s test or Galeazzi’s sign. With the patient in the supine position, their hips flexed to 45 degrees and their knees flexed to 90 degrees. Compare the height of the knees. A positive test is when the knees are of different heights. If the lower knee is displaced towards the foot, it suggests a shortened tibia and fibula. If the lower knee is displaced towards the body, it suggests dislocation of the hip, a shortening of the femur, or a reduced femoral neck-shaft angle, known as coxa vara.
